Once a newsroom has a shared vocabulary, the next risk is drift: the Monday email swells, the homepage number creeps back in, the Bahasa edition disappears from the total. The monthly briefing is a short reconstruction of the previous month, written for the same editor who took the flagship audit.

What arrives

By the first Monday of the month, a four-to-six page note: the stories that held readers, the alerts that went dull, the paywall stops that still look accidental, and one homepage module that stole air from the lead. It is prose, with a few tables, in the same terms as conference.

Conditions

We only take this retainer after a measurement audit, so we are not inventing a baseline in the dark. The first three months are the minimum. After that it is month to month, with fifteen days’ notice. A quarterly visit to the newsroom can be added; it is not required.

What we will not do on retainer

We will not become the in-house numbers person, join every conference, or produce figures for advertising sales. If the title wants sales numbers, that is a different desk, and not ours.
